Door Plate Installation Guide

Our door plate options serve primarily to protect from entryway scuffs, scrapes, and damage. A secondary benefit is aesthetic appeal, as kick plates for doors can also act as decoration, personalization, or stylistic flare. A kick plate, push plate, accent plate, or dog scratch prevention plate that matches the door’s existing hardware can be a very attractive addition to any entryway.

There are three door plate installation options available for our various products: screw mount, adhesive mount, or magnetic mount for steel doors. Please read through the instructions below and watch our installation video to ensure proper installation and to avoid product damage or harming yourself - Careful! Edges can be sharp.

Screw Mount

For wood doors and other solid doors, the most common mounting method is screws.

Color matching screws can be found in a small plastic bag enclosed in your shipping box.

1. Determine your desired location for installation; assure the plate is level and centered. (tip: you can use painters’ tape to hold the plate to the door)

2. For metal doors, mark the predrilled holes with a pencil or marker. Predrill holes for the screws using a 3/32” drill bit.

For wood doors, the included self-tapping screws will install directly with no need for pilot holes.

3. Use a screwdriver or screw gun to fasten the door plate with the color matching screws included in your package. Be careful not to strip the screw threads, use gentle pressure.

Note: *Door plates are specially packaged to prevent damage during shipping. They have a clear protective plastic film on the front side that should be removed prior to installation (protective liner has already been removed from engraved plates).

Adhesive Mount

Mounting with 3M adhesive is a great option for a semi-permanent (permanent, yet removable) installation. It is important to have the plate properly aligned and level the first time you attach the kick plate (mark the corners). Please note the temperature of the door and plate should be consistently at 45-80 degrees F for proper adhesion bonding.

1. Clean door surface with a mild soap and water; allow to dry completely.

Note: *If you have recently refinished your door, please allow 48-72 hours for paint to cure before installing your door kick plate.

2. Remove the paper liner from the adhesive on the back of the plate.

3. Line up the plate and press firmly, applying even pressure to the surface of the plate, for 30 seconds.
